Over Population: Ala's Biggest Problem
Started By
After spending much time on this site, I've come to realize that there are just too may dogs on here. We all know this is a problem. And of course I've noticed the simple ways Alacrity tries to keep the dog population down- limited free dog slots, eventual passing of old dogs, maximum of 4 pups born from one dog at a time, health problems, etc. But as the number continues to increase, more and more dogs become more harmful than helpful to the site. Many end up in the pound or just stuck for sale on people's pages. I fully support use of the pound, but isn't there something that could be done to get rid of the excess population of dogs on here?

I'm open for suggestions as I don't know how to trim down the amass of dogs on the site, but I hope my fellow users have some ideas. Not trying to spark issues here; just curious if anyone agrees with me and how to solve such a problem.

Personally I think responsible breeding should be more stressed on this site. When you have a real dog and decide to breed you have tests done to see if the dog is even healthy enough TO breed. I'm not saying make X amount of dogs inbreed able forever but maybe have it to where you have to take a female dog to the vet for tests, it would kind of be like a drawing thing one of every 4 are okay to breed so no telling if your dog will be able to breed. If the test fails (please note there is nothing wrong really with the dog it just fails the test) you will have to wait till the next time the dog is in heat and try again. Also not all dogs get pregnant while they are in heat sometimes it takes two or three breeding a before the dog does get pregnant. After the litter of puppies is born a full year has to pass before that dog can breed again. Not a human year but aka time year. It is inresponcible to breed litter after litter of puppies.

If that is turned down then why not throw in some health problems for dogs that are repeatedly breed? Over breeding of a real dog can cause a dog to die in the long run. If the dog is breed 3 to 4 times a year chances are it will die

Pssst, don't forget that dogs can be retired, and those in the pound for more than two weeks are automatically retired.
